I think at some point in any life, there comes that moment when you wonder, "What if..." For Edie, that moment comes after her mother's death. She's spent years as a caregiver, and now she feels lost. She decides to leave her Irish home for a once-in-a-lifetime job managing a bakery in Paris.

The problem is that Edie arrives to learn the bakery isn't in Paris at all, it's on Rue de Paris in Compiègne. The elderly owner of the bakery is anything but welcoming. Plus, there's something unusual going on as she's never seen the baker or any ingredient deliveries.

Soon, the mystery behind this charming French bakery starts coming to light, and threats of losing the bakery forever are more than Evie can stand. She'll fight to keep her job in a town that's starting to change her life and show her who she really is.

I loved a lot about this book. It does travel back and forth in time. The historical parts are set during WWII and Germany's atrocities. The rest of the book is set in the present day. The changes are seamless and added so much depth.

It's hard not to want to get into the kitchen after reading The Mysterious Baker on Rue de Paris. A latte with a chocolate croissant would be the perfect addition.
